WCCC Club spins
Group Spins Ride times for Saturday and Sunday are 08:30 spring/summer and 09:00 autumn/winter.
Our Sunday club spins are an enjoyable social experience where the group rides together at a suitable pace for all, with a stop for coffee and a chat.
There are several groups and we encourage people to ride with the appropriately paced group.
Depending on the numbers turning up, the following groups will leave from Centra Drimoleague / Galvin’s Dunmanway on alternate Sundays.
- Red Group: Pace 28km/hr+ and distance 70 to 120+km
- Amber Group Pace 26-28km/hr and distance 70 to 100+km
- Green Group: Pace 24 to 26km/h and distance 50 to 80km
Green Group spins usually take place for a period in early season in order to facilitate new members and those who have taken a winter break. These members would generally be expected to move up to Amber once fitness and endurance improve.
During winter months the pace and distance will usually be lower and the social coffee stop will often be at the end of the ride.
All groups normally have a social coffee stop near the half-way mark during the rest of the year.
Group members should ride at a suitable pace for the group, not riding off the front and not pushing the pace to a level where other members are struggling.
Links to the proposed routes of rides for all groups will be posted to the club WhatsApp “spin orgnaiser” group & Facebook page on the Friday evening. These can be downloaded to many gps units e.g. Garmin 500, 800 and 1000 series and to Wahoo Elemnt and Roam units.
Road surfaces and conditions can change so caution should be exercised if cycling a posted route that you have not cycled on recently. Register with https://ridewithgps.com/ to download these.
New and inexperienced members will normally ride with the Green groups and existing members will offer guidance to help new members.
During the summer season the club organise midweek spins – typically on Wednesday evenings. These spins serve to enhance the fitness of those participating. Duration is shorter than Sunday spins, hence pace can normally be expected to be fast (Typically 28+). All members are welcome to attend but summer midweek spins are never “no drop” spins – do not expect others to wait for you if you’re off the pace.
Members are encouraged to use the “Spin Organiser” WhatsApp group to arrange spins with their clubmates on an informal basis. The pace and distance of these rides are agreed by the group on the day.
Download the Ride with GPS App (RWGPS) to your phone and set up an account, the free version works fine. Then link your RWGPS account to either your Garmin or Wahoo accounts. These links show you how to do it:

On a Garmin device press IQ usually on bottom right. Press Ride with GPS. Press Pinned Routes. Select the route and press Download and Ride.
On a Wahoo device turn it on. On your phone open the Wahoo Elemnt or Roam App. Press Choose a Route. The route you pinned earlier in the RWGPS should be listed.
